Who are you?
I am a business owner in her early 40’s who has a very busy lifestyle.
How healthy would you say you are?
I’m happy with my health - aside from a prescription for migraine tablets and annual check out, I haven’t needed to go to the doctors in years, and I’m very rarely unwell. I keep myself fit and healthy.
Any new year’s resolutions for 2019?
Resume yoga! I had a break in 2018 due to juggling too busy a life, but I’ve taken action to control that now, leaving some space to resume yoga. My lack of flexibility and core strength demands it!
What do you do to take care of yourself?
Running, netball, plenty of walking and stretching. I also try and eat healthily, plenty of fish, greens, fibre, and proteins. I started Mindful Chef in November and that’s working well so far.
My brain stays lively and focused, my running had a noticeable positive effect on my netball performance, my skin and hair feel better, and I feel more ‘zippy’. I don’t feel tired and sluggish.
What do you do to relax and take away the stress of the day job?
Spend time with the dog, watch a bit of easy tv, read, spend time with loved ones, go for a walk or a bike ride - normal stuff that occupies my brain in a different way to work.
What’s your biggest vice / worst habit when it comes to your health?
Crisps and savoury bites. Ugh, I’m terrible. Addicted even. I once gave up crisps for 18 months and was so proud... and then I broke...
What advice would you give to your younger self about taking care of themselves?
Do you remember when you felt you didn’t need to do your daily sit ups any longer because your stomach was nice and flat...? Well you shouldn’t have! Little and often works.
It’s Cervical Cancer Awareness Week. Any pearls of wisdom?
Firstly, just get on with it and have your test. And secondly, if you are a bit nervous or embarrassed, just remember that the person who carries it out does this ALL THE TIME and it’s not an issue for them. It’s tantamount to boring. Just woman-up, put your concerns aside - better this than worrying that you have undetected cancer, click here for more information on cervical screening.
