Imaging and scans

Make an enquiry

Diagnostic imaging is popular as results are quick and often provide an accurate diagnosis and peace of mind. There are no waiting times and we do not require a referral from your NHS GP.

Our Private GPs and Consultants – here at our City Centre Clinic – are on hand to provide the referral to our highly trained sonographer’s and radiographer’s who will perform your scan and prepare your results. We offer a personalised service; your results will be explained to you by the same clinician who initiates your referral.

We’re here for:

An X-ray is a quick and painless procedure which is commonly used to produce images of the inside of the body. It's an effective way of looking at the bones and is used to help detect a wide variety of conditions.

X-rays are a type of radiation that passes through the body, invisible to the naked eye and cannot be felt. As the rays pass through the body, the energy is absorbed at different rates by the different body parts, denser body parts that X-rays find difficult to pass through will show up as clear white areas on the image while softer parts that X-rays can pass through more easily, such as your organs will show up as darker areas.

MRI scan

MRI scanning or Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a scan that uses both strong magnetic fields and radio waves to produce very detailed images of the inside of the human body. The MRI scan takes place in a large tube that contains very powerful magnets, you lie down on a bed that’s moved into the tube throughout the scanning process.

The parts that are most frequently scanned are the brain and spinal cord, bones and joints. The heart and blood vessels, internal organs and the womb, breast and prostate glands. The results of an MRI scan are used to help diagnose conditions, plan effective treatments and are used to assess how effective previous treatment methods have been.

CT scan

A computerised tomography scan or CT scan uses both X-rays and a computer to create highly detailed images of the human body. CT scans are sometimes referred to as CAT scans and are carried out in hospitals by specially trained operators called radiographers.  CT scans are able to produce highly detailed images of the structures of the body, this includes internal organs, blood vessels and bones. The results of a CT scan are used to help diagnose, to recommend further tests and treatments or to monitor existing conditions.

A GP Consultation will be required in the first instance to ascertain as to whether CT is the most appropriate form of diagnostic for you. A CT scan is a radiation giving modality and caution must be given about the risks and benefits. Our Private GPs will assess your condition and provide a referral to the Radiographer in the Imaging department, there no waiting times and our results are rapid.

A Mammogram is an X-ray test that aims to detect the early signs of Breast cancer. Mammograms can spot cancers when they're very small and are very hard to feel, most experts agree that regular breast screening is beneficial, and can help in identifying the early signs of breast cancer. The earlier the condition is found, the greater the chances of survival. Early detection also lowers your chance of needing a mastectomy or chemotherapy.
