An echocardiogram is an ultrasound scan of the heart and often called an ECHO. The heart scan, also know as a cardiac scan, can give accurate pictures of the heart muscle, heart chambers and structures within the heart such as the valves.

An echocardiogram, or heart ultrasound, is performed for many different reasons. It may be done to see if there is any damage after a heart attack, or to look at how well the valves are moving. It can also help to see any fluid that may have collected around the heart.
An ultrasound probe will be moved across your chest to monitor the blood flowing to and from your heart, and to check how much blood is being pumped per heartbeat. The heart echo is usually able to detect signs of heart failure, heart disease, any enlarging or infection of the heart, damage from a heart attack and more.

We are DDA compliant, with wheelchair access to the building and a consulting room and disabled toilet on the ground floor. We are currently having a ramp built to allow easy wheelchair access. In the meantime we are using something called a ‘stair climber’ so wheelchair users can access the building while the works are being completed. Our client advisors will be able to assist with any other requirements you may have.
We don’t take a payment upfront for our GP services. We always request that you tell us as soon as possible if you can’t attend an appointment. We do take a payment upfront for our consultant appointments and that can be done at the time of booking. We’ll be more than happy to cancel or re-schedule any consultant appointments for free up to 24 hours before your appointment. If your appointment is less than 24 hours away, our policy is that we ask for 50% of your total booking fee as a late cancellation fee. If you feel you may be late for your appointment, please contact us on 0300 247 0121 and we will do what we can to help you.
If, for whatever reason, you miss your consultant appointment and haven’t informed us at least 24 hours in advance, unfortunately we will need to charge you £180 towards the appointment as a late cancellation fee.
Your doctor may feel that further tests, for example blood tests, are needed in order to confirm any diagnosis. Please bear in mind that you will need need to pay for these additional tests yourself, but whether you decide to go ahead with these is up to you. You should always feel your doctor has given you enough information to help you make an informed decision about any of the options for additional services they might go through with you.
Currently unless you are a non-UK resident we are unable to directly accept any PMI or private health insurance. In some cases for non-UK residents your international health insurance may mean that you can use Virgin Care Private as part of your policy. Please check with your insurer. Any additional tests that your doctor may feel are necessary may also be available through the NHS. If you are interested in this please ask the doctor or consultant to advise. Unfortunately most UK-based private health insurance schemes do not cover primary care (such as private GP consultations), though some insurance companies require specialist referrals to be made by a GP (private or NHS) before they will cover the cost. Some policies cover the cost of laboratory tests. We are not able to liaise with insurance companies directly, and you will therefore need to pay for your treatment as a private patient. We will provide you with an itemised invoice to assist you in reclaiming any payments your insurance company may be able to cover.
