We are DDA compliant, with wheelchair access to the building and a consulting room and disabled toilet on the ground floor. We are currently having a ramp built to allow easy wheelchair access. In the meantime we are using something called a ‘stair climber’ so wheelchair users can access the building while the works are being completed. Our client advisors will be able to assist with any other requirements you may have.
Our standard GP consultation is 15 minutes, which is usually suitable for most people's circumstances. If you’re worried that it won’t be long enough please call us to discuss alternatives, such as a double length appointment.
Anyone can use our clinic alongside their NHS GP if they wish to. We take your privacy extremely seriously and will only use your personal information to administer your account and to provide the services you have requested from us.
We have both male and female doctors as part of our team and we will always do our best to accommodate your request for a preferred doctor. You can select an appointment with your choice of doctor online.
We don’t take a payment upfront for our GP services. We always request that you tell us as soon as possible if you can’t attend an appointment. We do take a payment upfront for our consultant appointments and that can be done at the time of booking. We’ll be more than happy to cancel or re-schedule any consultant appointments for free up to 24 hours before your appointment. If your appointment is less than 24 hours away, our policy is that we ask for 50% of your total booking fee as a late cancellation fee. If you feel you may be late for your appointment, please contact us on 0300 247 0121 and we will do what we can to help you.
If, for whatever reason, you miss your consultant appointment and haven’t informed us at least 24 hours in advance, unfortunately we will need to charge you £180 towards the appointment as a late cancellation fee.
Your doctor may feel that further tests, for example blood tests, are needed in order to confirm any diagnosis. Please bear in mind that you will need need to pay for these additional tests yourself, but whether you decide to go ahead with these is up to you. You should always feel your doctor has given you enough information to help you make an informed decision about any of the options for additional services they might go through with you.
We do not currently offer video consultations with our doctors. We are aiming to be able to offer a virtual GP appointment in 2018. However, bookings for face-to-face consultations can be made by email or over the phone. We can also offer telephone consultations with a doctor for £25.
Currently unless you are a non-UK resident we are unable to directly accept any PMI or private health insurance. In some cases for non-UK residents your international health insurance may mean that you can use Virgin Care Private as part of your policy. Please check with your insurer. Any additional tests that your doctor may feel are necessary may also be available through the NHS. If you are interested in this please ask the doctor or consultant to advise. Unfortunately most UK-based private health insurance schemes do not cover primary care (such as private GP consultations), though some insurance companies require specialist referrals to be made by a GP (private or NHS) before they will cover the cost. Some policies cover the cost of laboratory tests. We are not able to liaise with insurance companies directly, and you will therefore need to pay for your treatment as a private patient. We will provide you with an itemised invoice to assist you in reclaiming any payments your insurance company may be able to cover.
Yes! One of the benefits of seeing a private doctor is to provide you with a choice of specialists, if you need more specialised care. Your GP will suggest one or more of our carefully selected specialist consultants who are experts in their field; you or your GP will then choose who would be best to see.
We highly recommend a consultation with our GP before taking any other action, unless you have already been referred to a specialist by another doctor. This gives us the best understanding of your circumstances, from which we can make the best recommendation for your next steps in getting well and living well. If you’re still unsure, please don’t hesitate to call us on 0300 247 0121 to discuss how we can help you.
If you need an appointment with one of our consultants, simply ask our client advisors to organise this. Our client advisors will then book you an appointment at a time which is convenient to you. This can be done in clinic or over the phone. This is the same for repeat appointments.
If you require a prescription for a particular medical condition then you must arrange an appointment with one of our experienced GPs, who will then prescribe or dispense the appropriate medication. We are able to provide repeat prescriptions and dispense medication for regular patients who have previously seen one of our GPs and an agreement has been made to put medication/prescription on repeat. This makes it even more convenient for patients who have busy lives. You just need to contact a client advisor, put in your repeat request and we organise this for you. The GP will agree a duration for the repeat prescription/medication before a medication review appointment is required.
If you would like a sickness certificate, please book an appointment with one of our GPs who will be able to write a sick note for you. If you are unable to attend work or attend college/university we are able to provide private certificates or private sick notes to cover absences as well as diagnosis and treat minor illnesses. We can provide a sick note or letter with specific details depending on your organisation's requirements.
A health assessment/screening can provide reassurance or essential information and advice to start out on the road to a longer, happier and healthier life. Our GPs provide full health check-ups for all key indicators such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and other possible underlying categories appropriate to your age group. During your consultation, a GP will review your medical history and give you a thorough medical examination and blood analysis so they can take a complete picture of your health and advise you of any changes you can make to improve your wellbeing. If you think you might be at risk from a health condition due to hereditary factors then a health screen can give you peace of mind and uncover any potential issues. The screening service gives you a comprehensive picture of your health, allowing you to find out what can be adjusted in your lifestyle to improve your health.
In October we were so pleased to have won 'Newcomer of the Year 2018' at the City of Birmingham Business Awards and just a month later we were awarded a certificate of excellence by Doctify for our high levels of customer satisfaction.
A health cash plan is an insurance policy that can be used to cover the cost of essential or routine medical expenses. This can include dental, optical, physiotherapy and more! You pay a monthly premium and you are then reimbursed the full or partial amount, dependent on the terms of your policy.
Yes, you are able to use your health cash plans at Virgin Care Private. You should check your policy to see how much you can claim and which treatments you are entitled to claim back as this will vary from policy to policy.
Health cash plans are designed to cover day to day medical costs whereas private medical insurance will cover operations, hospital stays and treatment. A health cash plan can help you budget routine medical expenses such as private GP appointments.
Yes, you can. Our consultants work with a number of private medical insurers, but you should read your policy and ensure you fully understand what treatments are covered before you plan on seeing one of our consultants.
