Anti Mullerian Hormone (AMH) - £60

Women are born with their lifetime supply of eggs, and these gradually decrease in both quality and quantity with age. Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) is a hormone secreted by cells in developing egg sacs (follicles). The level of AMH in a woman's blood is generally a good indicator of her ovarian reserve. AMH does not change during your menstrual cycle, so the blood sample can be taken at any time of the month - even while you are using oral contraception. An AMH test gives us some insight into the remaining quantity of eggs and number of fertile years you may have, but it cannot tell us much about the quality of those eggs.

Menopause test - £114

Symptoms of the menopause can include vaginal itching and dryness, low libido, painful joints, insomnia, heart problems, depression, hot flushes, sweating, dry eyes and slow digestion. Our menopause test detects the levels of Follicle-stimulating Hormone (FSH) in your body. FSH causes your ovaries to produce oestrogen, and when your ovaries slow down the production of oestrogen, the levels of FSH are increased. Our test also includes the level of other hormones such as LH, oestradiol and thyroid function tests, so we can make a better assessment of your menopause status or a condition that can mimic menopause, such as a thyroid disorder.

Female hormone profile - £150

This test monitors levels of female hormones (FSH, LH, oestradiol and prolactin) to enable decision-making regarding the menopause, fertility and the menstrual cycle. The female hormone profile can be combined with other tests such as AMH and TSH to evaluate specific concerns, such as fertility related matters.

Fertility Test (female) - £150

This is a test to help evaluate why a woman might not be conceiving. Tests include FSH, LH, prolactin, AMH and oestradiol, which are the key female hormones. There are many reasons why a woman might not be conceiving, from a blockage in the fallopian tubes to lack of ovulation. This test aims to identify sub-fertility caused by an imbalance of hormones or early menopause. It can be useful for women who are having problems conceiving and who wish to explore potential causes and is also suitable for women who are aiming to become pregnant and wish to establish that their current hormone status.

Advanced Pregnancy test - £46

This test measures the amount of HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) in the blood. This is a hormone secreted when a fertilised egg becomes implanted in the uterine wall. This test is very sensitive and can detect even very low levels of HCG, possibly giving a positive result earlier than an over-the-counter urine test.

Down Syndrome risk profile with risk calculation - £169

This will test for down syndrome for your unborn child, the test is performed during the first trimester, from 14 weeks, up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Progesterone test - £40

This is a steroid hormone which helps prepare a female’s body for pregnancy. It works together with other female hormones (e.g. FSH, LH) and the level varies throughout the menstrual cycle. Its uses include determining the cause of infertility, checking ovulation and investigation of abnormal uterine bleeding.

Female menopause - £240

This test is an easy and convenient way to check your general health and assess your female hormones, especially if you are having irregular periods or experiencing any symptoms such as reduced sex drive, lower energy levels, hot flushes or change in mood and concentration. It will provide you with an insight into how your lifestyle is affecting your liver, kidneys, risk of diabetes and heart disease.

It also checks the thyroid gland function, which regulates our metabolism and can affect our mood, weight, appetite, sleep and bowel habit. There are various female hormones in this profile that can impact general well-being and the menstrual cycle.  Abnormal levels of these hormones may merit further investigation with a specialist in women’s health.

Key tests include red and white blood cell count, liver health, kidney health, diabetes screen, cholesterol, thyroid function, an important inflammatory marker (ESR), testosterone levels, prolactin, oestrogen, progesterone, LH, FSH, calcium and vitamin D levels.

Female fertility profile with AMH - £150

This test is an easy and convenient way to assess your female hormones, especially if you are having irregular periods or experiencing difficulty conceiving. There are various female hormones in this profile that can impact the menstrual cycle and ability to conceive. One test, AMH, provides an indication of ovarian reserve (number of remaining viable eggs). Abnormal levels of these hormones may merit further investigation with a specialist in women’s health.

Key tests include oestrogen, LH, FSH, prolactin and AMH.

Group B Strep - £50

Group B Streptococcus (GBS, Group B Strep or Strep B) is the most common cause of severe infection in new-born babies, and of meningitis in babies under 3 months. In the UK, pregnant women are not routinely offered testing for Strep B pregnancy, unlike many other countries. GBS is carried by up to a third of adults with no symptoms or side effects.

This test is available at Virgin Care Private. Our ECM (Enriched Culture Medium) test is not widely available in the NHS. The ECM test follows the Public Health England’s guidelines for ECM testing. If you want to find out whether you carry Group B Strep so preventative action can be taken to minimise the chance of your new-born baby developing Group B Strep infection, then give us a call and one of our client advisors will organise a convenient time for you to be tested.

The test is normally performed at 35 weeks of pregnancy. You should be offered intravenous antibiotics from the start of your labour regularly until your baby is born.
