At Virgin Care Private we understand the importance of a healthy digestive system, and if it’s not functioning as it should be it’s definitely not something that should be put off.

We have a wide range of tests that will put you at ease.

We’re here for:

  • Enhanced Liver Fibrosis
  • CDT Test for Alcohol Consumption
  • Peace of Mind Alcohol Risk
  • Hepatitis A, B & C tests
  • Kidney and Liver Function tests
  • Coeliac tests
  • H Pylori Antibodies
  • H Pylori culture test
  • H Pylori Stool test

Enhanced Liver Fibrosis - £155

The Enhanced Liver Fibrosis blood test is used to assess the severity of liver fibrosis. Liver fibrosis is the scarring process that represents the liver’s response to injury or disease. There are four main causes of fibrosis: fatty liver disease associated with obesity, viral hepatitis B and C, type 2 Diabetes/Metabolic Syndrome and alcohol misuse. This test allows identification of early or significant liver disease, provides a cost effective screening test, is easy to perform and can help assess the extent of liver damage.

CDT Test for Alcohol Consumption - £122

The Carbohydrate Deficient Transferrin (CDT) test measures a biomarker in the blood that tracks heavy alcohol consumption over an extended period of time. Steady and heavy alcohol consumption (4-6 units or more of alcohol per day) for several weeks will lead to an increase in the CDT levels. This test is for people who wish to prove that they have moderated or ceased their alcohol consumption and is chosen by motorists who have been deemed high risk offenders to gain peace of mind before they take a CDT test as part of the DVLA medical examination to get their driving license back.

Peace of Mind Alcohol Risk - £160

This test is an easy and convenient way to check your general health and to assess your alcohol consumption, principally in those who consume above recommended levels of alcohol regularly. It will provide you with an insight into how your lifestyle is affecting your liver, kidneys, risk of diabetes and heart disease. It also checks the thyroid gland function, which regulates our metabolism and can affect our mood, weight, appetite, sleep and bowel habit.  A specific test in this profile is a marker known as PEth. This is a stable, accurate marker to evaluate chronic, excessive alcohol consumption. It can be detected up to 28 days after stopping alcohol.

Key tests include red and white blood cell count, liver health, kidney health, diabetes screen, cholesterol, thyroid function, PEth levels and an important inflammatory marker (ESR).

Hepatitis A (HAV) Profile - £65 - Screening - £38 - Vaccination - £55

Hepatitis A (HAV) is very contagious and is spread through water and food that have been contaminated with hepatitis.  The blood test checks for acute Hep A infection.

Hepatitis A, B and C profile - £231

A single blood test lets us screen for all three types of Hepatitis at the same time, or for individual cases of Hepatitis A, B or C if we think there is only a risk of one type. Your results will then be ready in 24 hours. We’ll talk through the blood test results with you, and prescribe medication if it’s needed at this stage, and we’ll work with you to draw-up a lifestyle plan to help prevent any further damage to your liver. We also offer Hepatitis testing as part of our full STD/STI tests.

Hepatitis B (HBV) screening - £152

HBV screening – screening for Hep B infection

Hepatitis B DNA (Viral load) £218

This measures the concentration of Hep B viral DNA in a patients serum.  This test enables the viral load at the beginning of treatment to be established, and later monitored to indicate how well treatment is progressing.

Hepatitis B Profile - £104 - Vaccination - £55

Checks Hep B Surface antigen, Hep B surface antibodies, Hep B Core IgG/IgM.

Hep B vaccination helps to protect against Hep B. Usually 3 vaccinations are required and immunity can be checked following vaccination.

Hepatitis C (HCV) screening - £152

HCV screening – screening for Hep C infection

Hepatitis C Antibodies - £80

This test indicates exposure to the virus but does not necessarily indicate a current infection. The HCV antibody test may be used to screen patients for possible HCV infection.

Kidney Function test - £42

Our kidneys remove waste products from the blood and this blood test measures how well the kidneys are working. The test can pick up kidney disease, dehydration and also indicate where Ultrasound investigation of the kidneys is required

Liver Function test - £42

The liver is one of the most important organs in our body. The liver function blood test can measure overall liver health and help test for conditions such as hepatitis, alcohol-related liver disease, non-alcohol related fatty liver disease and cirrhosis.

Coeliac Full Screening - £129

This test builds on the single marker above and includes additional antibodies to help make a more accurate diagnosis for coeliac disease. It is important to eat gluten with each meal for 6 weeks prior to this test to maximise the chance of detecting coeliac disease on the test.

Coeliac Screening Marker (single) - £50

Coeliac disease is an autoimmune disease caused by a sensitivity to gluten. Exposure to gluten causes inflammation in the lining of the gut resulting in discomfort, bloating and diarrhoea, and preventing food and nutrients from being digested effectively. This test measures the level of tissue transglutaminase IgA antibody (tT IgA) in the blood. It is the primary test used to help diagnose coeliac disease. It is not definitive as some people do not produce IgA antibodies.
This is a useful screening test if you have symptoms suggesting coeliac disease, such as chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, anaemia and weight loss, unexplained liver abnormalities or osteoporosis or when a family member has coeliac disease. In those with Type 1 diabetes, there is around a 5-10% lifetime risk of developing coeliac disease. A positive test would lead to a referral to a specialist to confirm the diagnosis and agree on a management plan.

H Pylori Antibodies - £58

This is a test that measures the levels of Helicobacter Pylori antibodies in your blood.
H Pylori is a bacteria that can invade your gut, and if infected can be one of the major causes of peptic ulcer disease. If H Pylori antibodies are present, it could mean that they are there to fight the H Pylori bacteria. Our expertly trained doctors are on hand to correlate your tests results with your symptoms and advise you on the next steps in your treatment.

H Pylori culture test - £167

Tests to see if you are infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria. It’s a common bacterium and is usually more common in developing nations, often linked to poor hygiene in living conditions, with infection more common in children than adults.

A culture test involves taking a tissue sample, this is then placed in a special dish or tube which contains nutrients that are usually found in the organism's environment. If the Helicobacter pylori bacteria are present, they will reproduce and grow, they can then be examined under a microscope.

H Pylori Stool test - £66

H. pylori is a bacteria that lives in our stomach and has been shown to increase the risk of developing stomach ulcers. If you are suffering from indigestion, with a stool test we can identify H. pylori and our Doctors can provide you with the treatment or advise you on appropriate management.
