  • Monospot Glandular Fever test
  • Immunoglobin test

Anaemia Profile £133

Anaemia reflects low haemoglobin in the blood or a low red blood cell count. Haemoglobin transports oxygen through our bloodstream and low levels can be due to blood loss (for instance due to periods) or a dietary deficiency. The main symptoms associated with anaemia include a lack of energy, weakness, feeling faint, shortness of breath and dizziness. The most common type of anaemia is iron deficiency anaemia (low iron levels) as iron is an important component of haemoglobin. A simple blood test can assess your haemoglobin levels, red blood cell count and iron levels.

Blood group test - £48

A blood group test is used to determine an individual's blood group type and what type of blood or blood components the person can safely receive. This is important to ensure that there is compatibility between anyone who requires a transfusion of blood or blood components and the ABO and RhD type of the unit of blood that will be transfused.

Full Blood Count £36

Full Blood Count (FBC) checks the type, number and appearance of various blood cells, including red blood cells (important for carrying oxygen around the body), white blood cells (vital to the body's immune system), and clotting cells (critical to regulating and stopping bleeding). This test can help diagnose anaemia (which is due to low levels of haemoglobin or a low red blood cell count) and assess general immune function. If you are having symptoms associated with anaemia, such as fatigue or weakness, or have an infection, inflammation, bruising, or bleeding, then an FBC test can help diagnose the cause.

Sickle Cell Anaemia Profile £80

Sickle cell disease is the name for a group of inherited conditions that affect the red blood cells, with sickle cell anaemia being the most serious. The condition gets its name from the shape of the cells that people with the condition produce.

This causes problems because the cells don't live as long as healthy blood cells, which means the cells die early which causes a constant shortage, they can also become stuck in blood vessels and can increase the risk of blood clots.

Sickle cell disease is a very serious and lifelong condition, but with the correct long term treatment, many of the problems can be managed.

Thalassemia Profile £80

Thalassemia is a group of inherited blood disorders that can be passed from parents to their children and affect the amount and type of Haemoglobin the body produces. Haemoglobin is a substance present in our red blood cells that carries oxygen around the body.

People with thalassemia produce less normal haemoglobin and this can lead to anaemia, with symptoms including weakness, fatigue and pale skin. Most people with thalassemia traits require no treatment but may wish to consider genetic counselling because they can pass on the gene and therefore the condition may occur in their children. Others with thalassemia will need review by a specialist to advise on further management.

Varicella Zoster Antibodies £60

This is a test that looks for antibodies in your blood, these are made by the body in against the varicella-zoster virus. This is a very contagious virus that can cause chickenpox and shingles. This test can help find out if you have chickenpox if the diagnosis is not clear. After having chickenpox, most people become immune to the virus for the rest of their life but the virus stays in your body (dormant) and can later become active, causing shingles.

Vitamin B tests - B-12 £52 - B-9 £39 - B-Profile £364

These tests will look at the level of vitamin B in the body. B vitamins are nutrients that the body requires in small amounts, this helps in a range of functions such as metabolism, energy production, and for cell, skin, bone, muscle, organ, and nervous system health.

The B vitamin test will look at these specific compounds in the blood or urine to help evaluate the nutritional status, as B vitamins are absorbed from the diet, they are used as needed with any excess removed from the body through the urine.

Monospot Glandular Fever test - Paul Bunnell test - £27

Glandular fever, also known as mono, is a common illness and is sometimes called the ‘kissing disease’ because of the way the virus spreads through saliva, commonly affecting teenagers and young adults. Glandular fever can be diagnosed with a simple blood test called a mono spot test, which tests for antibodies to the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).

Immunoglobin test - £85

This is a blood test to help evaluate your immune system status by looking for an excess or deficiency in one or more of the immunoglobulin classes (IgG, IgA, and IgM). It is generally performed if you are suffering from recurrent infections and/or chronic diarrhoea or to monitor conditions that are known to weaken the immune system.
